AUDIOSLAVE's CHRIS CORNELL: 'OZZFEST Sucks'
March 7, 2003AUDIOSLAVE, the new group featuring ex-SOUNDGARDEN frontman Chris Cornell and former RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE members Tim Commerford (bass),Brad Wilk (drums),and Tom Morello (guitar),stopped by the "Cane and Cabbie" show on New York's K-Rock yesterday. When asked why they are playing small shows on their current tour, Morello responded that it's because they are treating AUDIOSLAVE as a new band, not a coming together of supergroups. Cornell, who spoke about his stint in rehab, gave the following response when asked why AUDIOSLAVE chose to play Lollapalooza this year as opposed to Ozzfest. "Because Ozzfest sucks. There's no Perry Farrell reality series yet, although I think there could be some viewership there. It depends on the bands that are on it. We were, like, a big part of organizing this particular Lollapalooza as opposed to being a part of something that's not just some sort of a strange musical phenomenon, but also a TV show and… I'm saying that with all respect. I have absolute respect [for Sharon and Ozzy]. They treated us very well when we didn't do the last one, and it's great. But what they do, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's the best venue for our music." Listen to the entire interview here.
